Paul Sams,

Diablo III Taiwan Launch Update
Dear players,

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Taiwanese community, and would like to apologize for the recent service issues many of you have experienced. We've been working to address the issues affecting your ability to play and enjoy the game, and are in the process of making some key improvements.

When we were preparing for the Diablo III launch, we made what we believed were aggressive projections for the number of players connecting to our servers in the region and used those projections as a guideline for our hardware purchases. We bought more hardware than would be necessary based on those projections, but the overwhelming support for the game in Asia has resulted in the servers commonly being at capacity with a large number of players waiting to get in.

We've recently been able to make some optimizations to Battle.net, as well as improve server capacity and lower queue times, and we've also been in the process of deploying additional servers to handle the large number of players queuing up to play Diablo III. We are working to set up these additional servers as soon as possible and believe that, with these servers and with the changes mentioned above, queues should be greatly reduced in the immediate future, if not eliminated altogether.

In addition to the server capacity issue, the overwhelming response by our Taiwan players to Diablo III has put pressure on the public internet capacity between Taiwan and our Asia server region, resulting in additional queuing. We’ve implemented a short-term solution to help address this situation, and you should be noticing the effects of that already. However, it’s something we want to avoid altogether, so we’ve been working with regional ISPs to monitor and address the issue and to find a solution that would increase bandwidth for our players. We hope to have a sustainable solution in place as soon as possible and will keep you updated on our progress.

For your information, since launch day we have increased our Asia region capacity by over 100%, which was already 20% larger than our most optimistic expectations for the region, and within the next 7-14 days we expect to add another 35% capacity to our Asia region servers.

We understand that these issues have severely impacted enjoyment of Diablo III for many of you. We sincerely apologize and want to let you know that our teams are working around the clock to address these and other game-impacting issues, and we will continue to work tirelessly until we see them addressed. Thank you for your feedback, and we hope to see you in-game as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
Chief Operating Officer
Paul Sams
